Development Journal

How to use your development Journal

Your development journal has 4 major components:
  • An overview page
    • This page is designed to pull together your journey so you can track your progress and allow the coaches to support you more easily
    • You cannot edit this page outside of the pre-season target
  • Training targets and reflections
    • This is where you set your targets for our key training weekends before the event so that you are able to get the most out of the training.
    • Advice on this can be found here
  • Throwing challenge phase 1
  • Throwing challenge phase 2
Why Bother?

This is likely to be the biggest season most of you have played so far and to give you the best opportunity you can to make the most of it then changing your aproach to training and practice is a must.

All of the throwing tasks are short enough to be completed along side a regular training session and provide mental as well as physical challenge. Engaging with the full program will make this seasons training different to last seasons and should enable you to get the most from the cycle.

Setting up your Development Journal

Task 1: Setting your preseason target

Your target should be a weakness of yours that you have identified, something you are hoping to work on between now and the first training

  • What specific steps are you taking to address the result of last session?
  • Can you ask someone else to help or to give you live feedback?

Training targets and reflections

Before Training
  • Set yourself a target of what you are hoping to get from the session.
  • Is your target measurable? How will you know that you have achieved your target?
  • You cannot focus on everything at once, you are better off setting less targets so that you can focus on specific aspects of your development
  • Can you work with other members of the squad to push for a joint goal?
  • If you would like anything specific from the coaching team during the weekend then please get in touch ahead of time so we can plan ahead, this may include the coaches watching out for something specific during drills or games.
